WINTER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AND CHRISTMAS WEDDINGS

Winter weddings are becoming increasingly popular for bridal couples, with the demand for Christmas winter venues almost equalling the busy summer wedding season. Winter weddings can pose many challenges for the photographer - gales, dark skies, rain and short days can often pose a real challenge for a wedding photographer but there can also be many advantages to booking your wedding in the winter and choosing a specialist winter wedding photographer to take your photographs.

Low winter sun and stormy skies can often add drama to your landscape photographs which may not possible in the summer months. Low winter light often improves the composition of your outdoor photographs with bluer skies and long shadows. In the high summer months the strong overhead sun often bleaches out colours and adds shadows to faces.

During the summer, the sun will usually be overhead at the time of your service in early-mid afternoon but in the winter you can often be blessed with the low afternoon sun streaming through the windows of your church or wedding service venue and this can produce beautiful photographs.

Keeping warm is a must for outdoor photogaphy shoots in the winter but this does provide a good oportunity to add glamour to your wedding shots with faux fur, white capes, hoods and shrugs. For warm hands, carry a faux-fur muff, which can be decorated with flowers or ribbon.

If you are lucky enough to have a fresh fall of snow on your wedding day, remember to take some suitable footware to change into for your outdoor photography shots - boots won't show under your wedding dress and will mean you can get great photography shots in the snow!

Unless you and your guests want to shiver all day, many of your photographs will be taken indoors and there are many opportunities to make full use of unique architectural features inside your venue that may often be neglected during summer weddings.

Your wedding photographer can also make full use of the flowers and decorative and ornamental features in your reception area. Christamas weddings in particular provide many opportunities to add colour and drama to your wedding photograph album.
